Dr Tracey Thornley PhD, Senior Manager for Contract Framework and Outcomes, Boots UK, has been awarded an Honorary Professorship by the School of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham.

The award recognises her close links with the University, built up over many years through working on research around the development of new pharmacy services. The professorship will run for three years and started on 1 August 2015. Professor Thornley received her doctorate from the University in 2006 for her research on “Factors Affecting Service Delivery in Community Pharmacy”.

Her recent work has included the publication of a paper, co-authored by Professor Claire Anderson of the Nottingham School of Pharmacy, on the uptake of flu vaccinations by Boots pharmacy customers. This paper has been accessed over 6,000 times and has helped to inform local and national decisions across the UK to commission winter flu vaccination services from community pharmacies. Professor Thornley was instrumental in designing the study and overseeing the data collected by Boots pharmacy teams while delivering the service.

Professor Thornley, says: “I am honoured and proud to have received this special award. It is vital that we demonstrate the value that pharmacy is providing to patients and the NHS. This helps raise the profile of pharmacy with decision makers. I look forward to continuing to work with the School of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham.”

Professor Anderson says: “I am delighted that the University has given Tracey an honorary professorship. This is in recognition of all the joint research that we have done together over the years. We need to continue to provide evidence for the value of community pharmacy services. I look forward to continuing to work with Tracey.”
