No7 Advisor Lyndsey Mutch, 43, from Calside in Dumfries has been recognised by Boots and No7 Beauty Company at its annual awards for her outstanding work in the community.
Lyndsey was awarded the inaugural Florence Boot award, which recognises an outstanding individual or team for their exceptional work in their community, earlier this month. Team members across the UK were nominated for the award which is open to around 52,000 Boots and No7 Beauty Company employees.
The No7 Advisor has worked at Boots on Dumfries High Street for the past ten years. The Florence Boot award judges were impressed by the number of voluntary community activities Lyndsey had taken part in over the last year.
Inspired by her training to become a Boots Macmillian Beauty Advisor (BMBA), Lyndsey connected with the local Macmillan Breast Cancer Support Group in Dumfries to provide make-up and skincare tutorials for those affected.
She also worked with other vulnerable and marginalised groups in her community – delivering a skincare tutorial to clients of a local drug and alcohol rehabilitation service. She also delivered a six-week programme of skincare and makeup workshops for a group of disadvantaged pupils at a local secondary school. She also supports a group of trans women who visit the Boots store where she works, helping them to explore their identity through cosmetics.
Lyndsey said of her award win: “I was so overwhelmed when I was told I’d won the Florence Boot award amongst all the incredible nominees here at Boots. Working at Boots gives me great opportunities to support members of my local community, and I feel fortunate that I’m able to help them feel a little better during difficult times.
“The best part about working as a No7 Advisor is helping to give someone a confidence boost so I thought why not offer that to those who need and deserve it the most. I’m excited to continue my community work this year, with plans to do more with a local hospital and the elderly.”
Mark Millar, Director of Stores for Scotland said: “On behalf of all of us at Boots, a huge congratulations to Lyndsey for winning this award, it was thoroughly deserved and a great example of the community values of Florence Boot. We were inspired by Lyndsey’s passion for supporting those in her community to feel more confident through the skills she has learned as a Boots Macmillan Beauty Advisor. It’s fantastic that Lyndsey has gone above and beyond in her support of the work of Macmillan – one of our strategic charity partners – in her community. We are always so proud to hear about team members who get behind these partnerships so passionately.”
Boots works with Macmillan Cancer Support, The King’s Trust and The Hygiene Bank at a national level. Through the Boots Charitable Trust, it also gives grants to smaller charities in Nottinghamshire.
The new Florence Boot award was created to mark the 175th anniversary of Boots in honour of the woman it is named after. Florence Boot played a significant role in the running Boots after her marriage to Jesse Boot in 1886. She was responsible for diversifying Boots’ retail offering to include toiletries, perfume and other products for women. She was also a strong advocate for employee welfare, especially for the women who worked for Boots, and community work and philanthropy. The award recognises those who bring the same community values of Florence today.
