No7, the UK’s number one skincare brand1, will enter the healthy skin category with the launch of its Derm Solutions range; a line-up of nine products, including dermatologist-approved cosmetic skincare products and targeted solutions for key skin concerns, together with a new free-to-access in-store skincare consultation service combining dermatologist-grade technology with expert skin analysis.

No7 has created its Derm Solutions range and enhanced its in-store expert services in response to the growing need for skin health products and expertise among British shoppers. The launch follows more than ten years of research into the healthy skin category, including quantitative research with more than 10,000 members of No7’s proprietary consumer research panel, and product testing on over 5,400 consumers in 49 studies including both clinical studies and real-life trials.

The expert skin category is the fastest growing segment of the skincare market over the last two years2, driven by increased consumer demand for healthy skin products and solutions. Research shows that 76% of people in the UK report symptoms associated with unhealthy skin and 38% feeling stuck in a skincare cycle of choosing products that don’t work for their skin3. A 2023 survey of medical professionals by the British Skin Foundation4 found that 86% of respondents had observed an increase in patients reporting problem skin issues like rosacea, acne, eczema and psoriasis in the last 5 years.

“Our research shows that many people feel stuck in an ongoing cycle of skincare that doesn’t work for their skin, but they don’t know where to turn for trustworthy expert advice,” said Grace Vernon, Head of Global Cultural Insights and Trends, No7 Beauty Company. “Over half (56%) of UK consumers find shopping for skincare confusing and almost a third (29%) say they have experienced skin irritation by using the wrong or too many different skincare products. As the UK’s number one skincare brand, we wanted to develop a range and service that gives people access to personalised expert beauty advice and product recommendations, helping them to stop the frustrating cycle of trial and error.”

The Derm Solutions Range

The Derm Solutions range comprises five core products to help maintain the skin’s barrier and deliver visibly healthy, balanced looking skin in 4 weeks and four targeted treatment solutions addressing specific skin problems. The core products include a cleanser and moisturiser for oily skin, a cleanser and moisturiser for dry skin, plus a clinically proven serum that uniquely balances both oily and dry skin. The targeted treatment solutions include products tackling specific skin issues including blemishes, and aspects of rosacea, psoriasis and eczema.

The core products improve five visible signs of unhealthy skin, these include oiliness, dryness, uneven skin tone, rough texture and dullness, all of which can result from internal factors such as hormones , sleep, everyday stress and nutrition, as well as external aggressors such as, UV and busy lifestyles.

“Skin health is impacted by many different triggers which can cause an unhealthy skin cycle of inflammation, oxidative stress and barrier damage leading to oiliness and blemishes, dryness, dullness, redness, uneven skin tone and rough texture,” said No7’s Head of Science Research Dr Mike Bell. “The Derm Solutions range is designed to work with your skin, and not against it so that skin can adapt and defend itself from internal and external triggers.”

Derm Solutions by No7 contains a unique triple adaptogen system in its cleansers and moisturisers, that helps target visible signs of stress on the skin. The triple adaptogen system comprises:

  • Custard apple (cherimoya): A super fruit originating from the Americas, this adaptogen helps combat sensitivity and irritation, and tackle the visible redness.
  • Red clover: Rich in non-sterodial phytoestrogens, for improved hydration and support to the skin barrier.
  • Ginseng: helps protect against oxidative stress.

The moisturisers and cleansers also contain niacinamide, and pentavitin to support the skin’s barrier and ceramides to hydrate and lock in moisture.

At the heart of the range is the Derm Solutions Skin Balancing Serum, uniquely and clinically proven to target both oiliness and dryness, revealing visibly healthier and balanced looking skin in just 28 days. It contains an antioxidant complex with green tea, vitamin E & C and Japanese Lily Turf.

Skin Solutions in-store skin consultation service

As part of the Derm Solutions launch, No7 is introducing a free in-store service with its CIBTAC-qualified5 No7 Beauty Advisors. Each of No7’s 1,400 Beauty Advisors has undertaken healthy skin training as part of No7’s CIBTAC accredited Skin School programme.

The No7 Skin Solutions service is a series of three personal skin consultations with No7 Beauty Advisors over a period of 12 weeks. In each appointment, No7 Beauty Advisors use Pro Derm Scan technology to provide accurate readings of hydration, oil balance, pores, fine lines and wrinkles and skin colour, providing a personalised skincare solution and expert support throughout the three month timeframe it takes skin to acclimatise to a new regime. To coincidence with the launch, No7 Pro Derm Scan technology has been updated with a new skin measurement – skin tone evenness – assessing the difference between the average colour of the forehead, cheek and jawline.

Through both the Skin Solutions service and the Derm Solutions range, No7 aims to provide a vital first point of entry for the many people who want to improve their skin. Research shows that 82% of people who would consider seeing a dermatologist want to do so to get advice on skin health and product recommendations and 90% think beauty brands could be doing more to help educate consumers on skin health (source: No7 Skincensus, August 2023).

Dr Emma Wedgeworth, dermatologist, commented “Skin conditions are increasingly common2, having access to trusted and factually correct information is vital to help people understand their skin and to support them on their journey to better skin health. For milder changes, adapting skincare routines can be a great first step in helping to reset and improve skin health. I’m really excited to be working with No7 on their in-store Skin Solutions Service and Derm solutions range – a great way to improve access to the right information. The Skin Solutions Service provides a first point of entry for people to get trusted advice from No7 Beauty Advisors who can also help direct people to other services where necessary. The Derm Solutions range is well suited to people who need to support their skin barrier with core products that will reset and soothe the skin.”

No7 Derm Solutions will be available nationwide at Boots stores, boots.com and no7beauty.co.uk from 27th September 2023.
