In a UK pharmacy medicine first, Boots launches own brand Sildenafil Orodispersible Film 50mg*, a rapidly dissolving oral film that can help treat erectile dysfunction (ED), available in selected stores and online at boots.com.

Boots Sildenafil Orodispersible Film 50mg has been developed in partnership with IBSA UK. The medication is available without prescription as a pharmacy medicine and is clinically proven to help users get and maintain an erection. It uses innovative oral film technology that dissolves on the tongue within seconds of use.

The launch comes as the UK’s leading health, wellness and beauty retailer reveals demand for advice and treatment for ED has grown by 42% in the last three years.2

Patients will either need a consultation with a pharmacist in store or complete an assessment when purchasing via boots.com to make sure it is appropriate for them. The medicine can be delivered to home or via Click & Collect in discreet packaging. **

Richard Stead, Consumer Health & Wellness Director at Boots, said: “We know that erectile dysfunction is an increasingly common condition that can be a sensitive subject, which is why we continue to find new treatment solutions for those who experience it. This product is the first of its kind and offers our customers a new and accessible format for the treatment of ED, with no water needed. If anyone is experiencing symptoms of ED, they can pop into a Boots store for advice, support and treatment from our brilliant pharmacy team right on the high street.”

Claire Nevinson, Superintendent Pharmacist at Boots UK, also answers commonly asked questions about erectile dysfunction.

  1. What is ED?

“ED is a common condition, particularly in men over 40, but can impact younger men too. The key symptoms are failing to get or keep an erection. This can be caused by a number of factors including everyday stress, tiredness, feelings of anxiety or an underlying medical condition.”

  1. Should I be worried if I’m experiencing ED?

“It is completely normal to experience erectile dysfunction from time to time and is generally nothing to worry about. However, erectile problems can be an early sign of conditions like cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. If you experience erectile dysfunction frequently, it’s important to speak to your GP or a healthcare professional to help understand the cause and check for any underlying health conditions you may need support with.”

  1. Can ED be treated?

“Adopting healthy lifestyle habits could help including eating a healthy and balanced diet, regular physical activity and limiting alcohol intake. Treatment is also available to help treat ED.”

“It’s important to visit your GP if you are frequently experiencing erection problems. The Boots Online Doctor Erectile Dysfunction Treatment service* also offers access to expert advice and treatment, if appropriate.”
