  • PrescriptionsPlus is Boots’ rebranded NHS repeat prescriptions service for customers across the UK

  • The enhanced service provides prescription tracking at every step, including ‘ready to collect’ notifications

  • The launch coincides with the roll out of support from Boots’ Regional Dispensing Hub in Basingstoke to a further 150 stores

Boots has launched PrescriptionsPlus*, its rebranded and enhanced repeat prescriptions service that simplifies the process of managing NHS repeat prescriptions.

Customers using the online service can track their prescription journey at every step from ordering it via the Boots or NHS app to delivery or collection. Real-time updates via text message are also available throughout the process, including when the prescription is ready to collect and reorder reminders.

Alongside Click and Collect in store, PrescriptionsPlus also unlocks free home delivery in England for busy customers who cannot get to a Boots store.

Anne Higgins, Pharmacy Director at Boots, said: “Prescriptions are an important part of the healthcare service we offer – in fact we’re the largest dispenser of prescription medicines in the UK. In the last year, we have introduced a range of new initiatives – like real-time order tracking and integration with the NHS app – to make it easier to manage repeat prescriptions online. The launch of PrescriptionsPlus, our new and improved NHS repeat prescriptions service, consolidates all these upgrades in a new digital brand and a digital customer journey that’s easier to use than ever before.”

Coinciding with the launch of PrescriptionsPlus, off site dispensing support will be rolled out across 150 stores in the South of England following a successful pilot of the Regional Dispensing Hub at Basingstoke.

The facility will make the repeat prescription ordering process faster and more seamless for customers by using automation to dispense centrally rather than in stores. Medicines will be delivered from the hub to stores within 24 hours of a prescription being issued, ready for customers to collect or for an onward journey to customers’ homes.

By reducing the time spent on manual dispensing, pharmacy teams in stores can dedicate more time to customers, freeing up their time for providing advice and support and dispensing acute prescriptions more quickly. This expanded capacity will also allow pharmacy professionals to deliver a wider variety of healthcare services in-store, foster closer collaboration with local GPs, and continue to strengthen their clinical skills and expertise, providing even greater support to the communities they serve.

The opening of Boots’ first regional dispensing hub in Basingstoke represents a significant milestone in the health, wellness and beauty retailer’s pharmacy transformation journey. This programme aims to grow prescription items and healthcare services at Boots by improving the customer experience of accessing healthcare on the high street.

* Free delivery via Royal Mail is only available for patients registered with a GP in England. The option to collect in-store is available for all customers registered with a participating GP anywhere in the UK. Charges may apply for delivery from store. Subject to availability. Participating surgeries only. Prescription charges may apply. Sign up to the text messaging service is required. Tracking available when ordering via Boots.com.
