Boots launches private gonorrhoea vaccination service as UK cases remain high

  • Boots now offers a gonorrhoea vaccination service as 90% of UK adults do not actively manage their sexual wellness, including checking for STIs

  • The service is available in over 160 Boots stores, offering a private option for adults who cannot access the vaccination via the NHS

  • The launch comes as sexually transmitted transfections (STIs) remain a significant public health concern, with over 400,000 diagnoses recorded in England in 20251

Boots is expanding its range of healthcare services with the launch of a new Gonorrhoea Vaccination Service*, giving customers greater access to sexual health support and preventative care on the high street.

The launch comes at a time when sexually transmitted infections remain a significant public health concern, with more than 400,000 new STI diagnoses recorded in England in 2025.2 Despite rising infection rates, new research by Boots shows that 90% of UK adults do not routinely look after their sexual health, including checking for STI’s.3

Available in over 160 Boots stores across the UK, the private service offers eligible adults aged 18 and over the opportunity to receive a vaccination that may help reduce the risk of gonorrhoea, one of the most commonly diagnosed STIs.4

Gonorrhoea is caused by bacteria transmitted through unprotected sex. While many people infected show no symptoms at all, if left untreated, the infection can lead to severe and long-term health complications.

The expansion of this service into Boots high street stores offers a promising option for the one in four UK adults – and 43% of 25–34-year-olds – who said they would ‘feel comfortable discussing sexual health concerns with a pharmacist’.

Claire Nevinson, Superintendent Pharmacist at Boots said: "Gonorrhoea often spreads silently with many people unknowingly passing on the infection. Vaccinations can help to break the chain of transmission, helping to protect people from catching the infection in the first place. Providing a gonorrhoea vaccination service through community pharmacies creates a convenient way for people to help protect their sexual health."

Customers can book in online at boots.com and pay in-store. The vaccination course consists of two doses at £110 each, totalling £220 for the full course, administered four weeks apart by a healthcare professional in a private Boots consultation room.

This launch further expands the comprehensive range of sexual health services available through Boots, which includes in-store and online STI test kits, emergency contraception, and treatments via Boots Online Doctor**, giving customers easier access to expert advice and care.
