Using innovative technology, UK customers using the Boots Christmas app can scan the QR code on a special gift tag available free in-store* and can film a video personal greeting on their smartphone. When their greeting is recorded, the tag can be attached to the gift and given to someone special, to give them an amazing surprise on Christmas morning.
Boots UK’s first ever Christmas app will also help make the Christmas shopping experience easier and more enjoyable. Packed with fabulous ideas from the huge range of great value Boots health and beauty gifts available in-store and online, the new app can help customers find those special gifts that keep on giving throughout the year. Customers can also use the new Boots Christmas app to explain how the personalised video gift tags work and how they can get hold of one in-store.
Ruth Spencer, Director of Loyalty and Multi-Channel, Books UK said: “We know that when it comes to their Christmas shopping, customers want to find that perfect present for their loved one, so we wanted to create an app that both helped them find the right gift then also share a personal message with the recipient that explains why the gift is so perfect for them using the video messaging function as well. We know that people are using their smart phones at Christmas to shop smart, so we’ve developed our first Christmas app to help make the Christmas gift shopping experience easier and more enjoyable.”
The Boots Christmas app will be supported by a full marketing campaign including advertising, direct marketing and PR.
Other functions of the app include:
- Gift List – Customers can help make the Christmas shopping experience as easy as possible using the Gift List function. Gift ideas can be stored in one place and customers can use the contacts in their phone to match people to presents. Gifts can be ticked off as they shop in-store or customers can send their list to boots.com to buy them all online.
- Gift Ideas – If customers need inspiration to find that perfect gift for their loved ones, they can use the Gift Ideas function on the new Christmas app. Just state who they are buying for, what they are in to and how much they would like to spend and Boots will find the perfect gifts. Gifts can be swapped and reassigned as often as they like and added to their Gift List so they are not forgotten.
- Search & Explore – If customers have specific ideas in mind for their gifts, they can select a category on the app and browse through thousands of 3 for 2 gifts to find that extra-special something for their loved ones. Alternatively, if they know the specific product they are looking for, they just need to type in the name and it will take them directly to the product page. The new Boots Christmas app will highlight the weekly Star Gifts and other great in-store and online offers
- Barcode scanner- Using the barcode scanner, customers can keep track of how much they are spending/saving by scanning each 3 for 2 product that is added to their basket. They can also use the scanner to plan what gifts their going to buy and add them to their Gift List to purchase them later.
