Sun, ice cream and rounders were all on order at the Boots UK site yesterday as colleagues joined together for a fundraising day in support of the Boots Benevolent Fund.
The annual charity day, known as ‘Benny Day’, encourages colleagues to head outside and enjoy the summer festivities including BBQ and food stands, inflatable fun, including the ever popular human table football, sports games, and live entertainment.
This year’s theme of the fundraising was for colleagues to ‘rock their socks’ which was also echoed in its stores across the UK, with colleagues wearing their snazziest, brightest, most weird and wonderful socks to raise money for the Fund.
Reena Mehta, Boots Benevolent Fund Manager, comments: “We all look forward to hosting ‘Benny Day’ each year as it is a chance for all of our colleagues based onsite to join together for an afternoon of fun, and to fundraise for those who may need some extra help. The ‘rock your socks’ theme was a really simple way of us having some fun in both the support office and across our stores; and it’s something that everyone can join in with – I know everyone has some classic socks stashed away in the cupboard!”
Boots has a long history of colleagues supporting each other dating back to 1908, when the first Benevolent Fund was started by its philanthropic founders, Jesse and Florence Boot. Extending to both current and former colleagues, the Fund offers loans and grants to those who are experiencing unexpected life events or financial hardship and need some extra help.
