Boots UK has today announced it will reimburse 50% of the cost of individual membership of the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK) for its eligible employees in 2019-20. This will include Boots Pharmacy Technicians who are practising in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

APTUK supports person-centred professionalism through encouraging members to have the attitudes and behaviours associated with outstanding healthcare professionals. It works on behalf of pharmacy technicians to advocate for the profession and advance education and scope of practice.

Marc Donovan, Chief Pharmacist at Boots UK said: “We are delighted to announce that we will now reimburse 50% of the cost of APTUK membership. APTUK membership offers many benefits and we want to make it even more affordable for our Pharmacy Technicians to take advantage of these.”

Liz Fidler, President of APTUK, said: “I am delighted that Boots are promoting and encouraging the merits of becoming a member of the professional leadership body for pharmacy technicians.

“The Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK has a range of tools to support professional development and actively encourages attendance at local branches. The Association is keen to work with Boots pharmacy technicians to support developing a virtual branch.

“I would encourage pharmacy technicians employed by Boots to utilise this amazing offer, which will enable professional development support and enable a stronger voice for pharmacy technicians working in this sector.”

Benefits for APTUK members include:

  • Use of the post-nominal 'MAPharmT' by qualified pharmacy technicians
  • A quarterly professional journal The Pharmacy Technician Journal covering national and strategic issues impacting the profession
  • Access to advice on educational issues via their Professional Development Team
  • Plus many more.

Pre-registration pharmacy technician trainees are able to register with APTUK for free for the duration of their two year course.
