Following increased conversation around the benefits of Vitamin D as well as the Health Secretary’s announcement urging people to take the Vitamin, in the last four weeks alone Boots UK has sold nine vitamin D products every minute*.
Boots Chief Pharmacist Marc Donovan says: “Following the latest statement from the Health Secretary, now more than ever it is being encouraged that people consider taking a vitamin D supplement. This is especially true as research is currently being undertaken to assess whether having the appropriate level of vitamin D in the body can reduce the risk a person has of a poor outcome of a COVID-19 infection.”
Marc continues: “We already know that vitamin D plays lots of important roles within the body including regulating the amount of calcium and phosphate we need, keeping our bones healthy and supporting the normal function of the immune system.”
“The Department of Health already recommends that everyone aged five years old and over, including pregnant and breastfeeding women, considers taking a daily supplement containing 10mcg of vitamin D during autumn and winter. It’s also recommended that people more susceptible to a vitamin D deficiency, such as those who cover up most of their skin when outside or do not spend a lot of time outdoors, should take one all year round.”
