The Boots UK store in Eagles Meadow, Wrexham is holding an event on Wednesday 13 March to highlight the health risks involved in smoking. The aim of the event is to raise awareness of how pharmacists and their healthcare colleagues can help smokers quit the habit for good, and will be supported by other health professionals from the local area.
Pharmacists and their staff are trained to help customers to give up cigarettes, and the pharmacy offers the NHS Enhanced smoking cessation service, which offers free Nicotine Replacement Therapy in combination with support and advice.
Year 5 and 6 pupils from St Giles School are designing pictures for a competition showing the reasons for quitting smoking and the health benefits of quitting, which will be displayed in the store on the day. They will also be visiting the store on the day of the event and will have the opportunity to ask the pharmacist Joanne Kember any questions that they have.
