Boots Opticians - Blue light response

08 November 2016
Feature Healthcare

As a health-led optician, our priority is to help people understand their eye health and to make sure our customers get the best possible care for their eyes, and that includes the use of the latest technology. There is a growing body of clinical evidence to support our position that exposure to some wavelengths of blue light may, over the long term, be harmful to the eye and these impacts are only just beginning to be understood. Our Protect Plus Blue Lenses reduce exposure to harmful blue light by up to 20% and should be considered, together with the effects of diet, smoking and family history on future eye health. The promotional materials relating to these lenses were approved by Trading Standards.

We welcome the feedback from Watchdog on the visits made to some of our practices, and where we may not have given the correct advice, we will work with our teams so they can explain the benefits of Protect Plus Blue lenses more clearly. Any customers who would like to have their prescription reviewed should seek expert advice from one of our trusted and qualified optometrists and can contact their local practice, visit Boots.com or speak to our customer care team on 0345 125 3768. It is very important that customers have a regular eye test as this can identify problems that need treatment.

Boots serves its customers and patients for life as the leading provider of healthcare on the high street and the UK’s number one beauty destination. 2024 marks Boots’ 175th anniversary year. Founder John Boot opened a herbalist store in Nottingham in 1849 to offer an affordable alternative to traditional medicines. His son Jesse expanded the business to become a modern retailer and the biggest chemist in Britain. Throughout its history, Boots has listened, learned and innovated, and it continues to challenge itself to improve its products and services every day.

Boots is part of Walgreens Boots Alliance, which is a global leader in pharmacy-led, health and wellbeing retail.  More company information is available on boots-uk.com.
