Nottingham, UK, 8 June 2015: Boots UK, a member of Walgreens Boots Alliance (NASDAQ: WBA), the UK’s  leading pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer, will offer its customers the ability to check out with Apple Pay, which is transforming mobile payments with an easy, secure and private way to pay, when it launches in the UK next month.

“We are hugely excited about launching Apple Pay. Offering our customers and patients new, innovative store experiences is at the heart of our strategy, and we know our customers increasingly want faster payment options. Apple Pay will make it even quicker, easier and more secure to pay in our stores,” said Simon Roberts, President of Boots.

Apple Pay will be available from over 16,000 till points across Boots UK’s 2,511* stores in the UK.

Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay. When a customer adds a credit or debit card to Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on your device and each transaction is authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code.

Robin Phillips, Omni-channel and Development Director, Boots UK said, “This initiative is the latest step in Boots UK’s use of mobile technology and Apple Pay is part of our digital innovation agenda focused on the next generation of customer experiences in the space of health, beauty, new ways of shopping and loyalty. Boots was the first retailer in the UK to trial contactless payment technology, and we are confident that the adoption of Apple Pay, which brings our customers added convenience, security and privacy, will be a huge success.”

Apple Pay is easy to set up and users will continue to receive all of the rewards and bene?ts offered by their credit and debit cards. In stores, Apple Pay works with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch.
