Giving the Gift of Clean: Boots UK helps alleviate hygiene poverty
21 August 2020
Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, Boots has been helping communities to protect themselves and their families. With more of the population returning to a ‘new normal’ life and schools re-opening in a matter of weeks, Boots wants to continue to support the nation.
This is why, more than 142,000 PPE products including face masks, hand wash and hand sanitiser are being donated to The Hygiene Bank, who will distribute them to those in need across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Lucy Reynolds, Director of Communication & CSR at Boots said, “No-one should have to compromise on Hygiene and our partnership with the Hygiene Bank enables us to deliver thousands of essentials to those who need them the most. We also have 245 Hygiene Banks across our stores nationwide where people can drop in and donate any hygiene essentials and really make a difference.”
Lizzy Hall, Founder of The Hygiene Bank added “There was great need to deliver hygiene essentials for those of us affected by poverty before the pandemic, and now the demand continues to increase due to the knock-on effects of Covid-19. That’s why our partnership with Boots is so critical, allowing us to provide over 142,000 PPE and hygiene essentials to our network alleviating some of the pressure individuals and families are experiencing at this time. It never ceases to amaze us the difference a hamper of toiletries or cleaning products can make to someone who would otherwise be unable to.”
Boots partnered with the Hygiene Bank in February this year and has already donated over half a million toiletries to the cause. As part of its work, Boots also donated 200,000 toiletries to the NHS during the midst of the pandemic to help frontline workers have access to hygiene essentials and vital wash stations in between busy shifts. Members of the public can get involved and donate the gift of clean in 245 Boots stores, where donation points have been set up as part of the partnership.
