Boots UK signs up to the UK Plastics Pact

14 August 2018

At Boots UK we champion everyone’s right to feel good and our business has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to operating as a socially responsible business for almost 170 years. Our customers, colleagues and the local communicates we serve, trust us to do the right thing, and protecting the environment has always been a central part of this.

We have recently signed up to the UK Plastics Pact, led by WRAP – a multi-stakeholder initiative bringing together all kinds of organisations and individuals involved in the plastics value chain – to tackle plastic waste and make a fundamental change in the way we design, produce, use, re-use, dispose and reprocess plastics.

This isn’t something new for us and we’ve been working actively on these issues for many years to further reduce the impact that our business has on the environment.

Elizabeth Fagan, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Boots, said: “For almost 170 years we have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to operating as a socially responsible business. We are committed to reducing single-use plastic and we welcome The UK Plastic Pact as a unique collaboration for businesses across the UK.

“We value the trust that our customers give us to do the right thing and we are actively reviewing the targets set through the Pact to evaluate their application to our international health and beauty business, so we can take a holistic view on the issues concerning plastics in this market.

“We have been working actively on these issues for many years to further reduce the impact that our business has on the environment. Last year we changed Boots brand cotton bud stems from plastic to rolled paper. In 2015 we removed plastic microbeads from rinse off products ahead of the UK ban and, in 2006, we were one of the first companies to use recycled plastic in toiletry bottles.”

Members of the Pact will work collectively to transform the UK plastic packaging sector by 2025. The vision of the UK Plastics Pact is “a world where plastic is valued and doesn’t pollute the environment”.
