Our process

Our reputation as one of the UK's most trusted retailers reflects our long history of doing business responsibly, and the vital role we've always played in helping to build healthy communities.

In 2004 we formally adopted a framework and governance process for managing and reporting our wide-ranging Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. Underpinned by thorough consultation and dialogue with internal and external stakeholders, our strategy was shaped under four key CSR areas; Community, Environment, Workplace, and Marketplace. The CSR issues of concern to our stakeholders were grouped within these areas as illustrated by our latest CSR Scorecard below.

During the latter half of 2008/09 a comprehensive baseline review of our CSR strategy and governance was conducted, including broad external and internal stakeholder dialogue as well as up to date customer and employee research into what matters to them in this area. The review was sponsored by Steve Duncan, Executive Chairman, Health and Beauty and a member of the Alliance Boots Social Responsibility Committee, which is chaired by Ornella Barra, Chief Executive, Pharmaceutical Wholesale Division. Further details of our Group CSR governance structure are included within the 2008/09 Alliance Boots CSR report (This link will open in a new window).
