Environmental incidents
Our policy is to maintain records of all environmental incident, including details of the actions taken to prevent recurrence. Incidents are classified broadly from Class 1 (low) - where the incident is confined to the immediate area - to Class 3 (high) - where the incident is not contained within the outer boundary of company premises. Prosecutions or the involvement of regulatory agencies, for example, are automatically designated as Class 3 (high), even if the incident itself is confined to the immediate area or contained within the outer boundary of premises.
Previous to 2007/08, Boots has been prosecuted twice for environmental pollution offences. These relate to the company failing to contain waste at our store in Golders Green during 2005/06.
During 2007/08 we were prosecuted for an incident we reported in 2006/07, where an underground effluent main leaked at our Nottingham Support Office site, resulting in contamination of a nearby water course. We had no Class 3 incidents during 2007/08.
