Community healthcare
Healthier lifestyles for everyone
As a trusted pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer, we want to make a positive contribution to the health of our customers and their families. We extend this commitment to the wider community. Through work with health organisations, charities, and by encouraging our people to share their knowledge and expertise, we aim to make an even greater impact on the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve.
Being safe in the sun
Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK, with over 75,000 new cases registered every year. That's why we do all we can to promote sun safety messages in the wider community.
Boots expert suncare consultants are encouraged to get involved in supporting sun safety activity in their local communities. We give them resources to help them to do a great job in sharing their knowledge and expertise on why it is so important to be safe in the sun.
Throughout the summer many of our consultants help local schools and playgroups, work with health professionals to educate parents and children, and work with community groups to support events in parks and beaches.
Helping young people to quit smoking
Smoking cessation is still one of the biggest public health priorities in the UK, and helping our customers to stop smoking is one of many important services we offer. Building on that commitment is our work with leading UK stop smoking charity, Quit. For example, we donated the proceeds of our no smoking day campaign in 2006 & 2007 so that Quit could create a new web based resource for teenagers to educate them about the facts and consequences of smoking, and give tailored support for young people who want to stop.

Project London
We have been working in partnership with Medecins du Monde UK since the launch of this project in 2006. The charity, better known for its emergency medical assistance in developing countries, operates a free clinic in East London reaching out to the community's most vulnerable people in order to ensure access to healthcare. The clinic is designed to provide temporary care whilst the team help people register with an NHS Doctor, which they have been able to do after the first visit for 82% of users.
Boots UK provides the essential medical supplies for the clinic and we fulfil any emergency prescription needs from our pharmacy which is just two minutes walk away from the clinic.
Now in its third year, our support is giving valuable support for hundreds of the most vulnerable citizens in that community.
